Last month between stops on The Barbecue Bus' South Carolina tour, Rien Fertel and I were invited for Harvest Week at Motor Supply Company Bistro in Columbia, SC. During the fall and spring harvests, chef Tim Peters and owner Eddie Wales invite their customers to meet the farmers that supply the restaurant's kitchen. Each night seasonal cocktails are followed by dinner with a menu featuring dishes that showcase each grower.
The odd addition to the charcuterie plate, a deep fried duck head, was a fascinating and delicious way to begin the meal. Between courses, I made it into the kitchen for a few photos of chef Peters and his crew. While in the dining room, I tried to capture the late afternoon light that streamed in for a few minutes as the sun set. It's safe to say a future story or two was born out of the night's dinner conversations. Many thanks to Debi and Tracie at Flock and Rally for giving The Barbecue Bus team a brief look at what's happening on Columbia's culinary scene.

I'm loving the posts on this website and the photographs are wonderful. A Columbia native I can attest to the fact that Motor Supply is our premier restaurant. I just recently bought a small farm in Aiken County and don't make it to favorite restaurant as often as I like. Keep up the good work! If you're ever interested in shooting farm life let me know. I raise pastured poultry and pork and we'd love to have you visit sometime.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, sir. What a delight!
